i dont personally have 97-99 but last night at the track i noticed jay_pee (who has GXE) steering wheel is different than SE. it looks more like the 95-96 wheel. funny how i asked him that last night if they were different.

yea the gle and gxe models dont have that small circular indent in the middle of the steering wheel.

 

does the GLE or SE have volume control on the streering wheel?

 

no, but that would be cool.

 

With the 95-96 I know that the SE has a leather-wrapped steering and shift ****... don't think the GXE/GLE has that.

By looking at the pic of your interior it looks like the airbag hub has the circular recess like the 97-99 SE steering wheel+airbag. I can't tell but does your steering wheel leather have perforations in the sides of the steering wheel?



Here's a pic of a GXE/GLE steering wheel. The only difference between the 2 is leather on the GLE wheel, and the steering wheel leather is not perforated.

If your steering wheel leather is perforated on the sides like mine then you the the very least have the SE steering wheel.

If it matters you might want to find out if the original owner did a swap for aesthetics or if the airbag was deployed sometime in the car's life and the body shop just went ahead and replaced everything with the SE wheel+airbag. I've heard of motorized shoulder belts installed in the wrong side from the factory (Honda did this on several of the 4th generation Accords) but never them installing the wrong steering wheel+airbag from the factory... unless you're the first case. The previous seller/owner must disclose if the airbag's been deployed before they sell the car.

 

97-99 SE steering wheels were all black, leather wrapped and the design was slightly different from that of the GLE/GXE model.

97-99 GLE/GXE steerling wheels were the same design but were different from the SE, but the GLE came leather wrapped, along with the automatic shiftknob, while the GXE came with the cheap soft plastic one..
