No, he specifically said he turned OD off (causing the light to appear) from 137-141mph. How the hell can he run in 3rd gear from 137-141mph?? Is he running at 7500 rpms or something?!?!? Even if he really was *ahem* *fuel cutoff*, everyone knows the stock dyno curve - at 7500rpm, a stock VQ30DE will be producing $hit at the wheels and dropping. He said within 10 seconds, the car went from 137-141mph...my a$$ it did.

I agree with Sprint...so much BS in this thread...and most of it's emanating from one particular person.

If he's lying, does that make him 16 with an inadequate ***** size? Its funny how he mentioned it cuz I still don't think that he could do 141 bone stock. And because most of us do drive a Max, many who are autos says that they can't do what you claim you did, I believe what the majority says: a bunch of BS.

I won't say he is full as BS, but i can see how people are questioning it. When i was totoally stock, i never pushed my car past 115, until just a couple of weeks ago when a few of us org member left a meet and got on a highway and went for it. As a said before 125 is no big feet anymore, but i only have a y and a hybrid intake. I can say this, some auto's claim to run 1/4's under 15.7 stock where i know some owners can't get below 16 without a mod. So i see what he's saying about some cars are capapble where others might not. But turning your OD off at 130 something is almost asking for your car to break down, especially if it's stock. I wasn't there, so i'll leave it at that. But i do plan on finding out how far i can bury my needle with the few toys i have under the hood right now.

This is getting old so this is the last time i'm gonna post on this. I don't care what other cars do, i don't care who believes me. On X-mas eve 2001 i was on the jersey turnpike on my way to nyc. My car got up to 141 mph on the odometer. Who know's maybe it was off, maybe i was being pulled by aliens or maybe it was a ****ing x-mas miracle. I dunno don't care. What i do know is that my car was stock and the odometer read 141. It did take me 4EVER to get up there (about 30 - 45 seconds ) after 125 mph. Nuff said. you can believe or disbelieve totally up to you free will is a gift use it.

Woop-d-doo..my odometer reads 91230.

Well Tony, if you did in fact reach an indicated 141mph bone stock w/o a faulty speedometer, super small diameter tires, etc., a congrats is in order because your car can do what thousands of others can't do.

But the simple fact that you ran ~140mph in 3rd gear like you claim is IMPOSSIBLE.

I've gone 133 and could have gone to 140. I was drafting Yoitsok and Quansung that night. Hogan's limiter stopped him at 130 in his 5th Gen auto and I was basically sitting there because I didn't want to go any faster even though I did get to 133 drafting. Keep in mind that the autos have bigger gears so the auto can definitely hit 140 but it will take a while to get there (especially without drafting).

Like turbomax stated, drafting is a "cheat". 7 mph when you are testing the limit when doing a top speed run is a huge difference.

At least you weren't going that fast in 3rd gear. haha

My bad, i knew you were the one who said they ran it, but i didn't know the exact time but i knew it was better than 15.7 in the 1/4.

idiots again

See I'm not the only one that says they've hit 140 in a stock auto so eat my @ss guys. I bet damn near every auto max in good condition with some nice cold X-mas air could hit 140. I don't claim to do something amazing its a 190hp car what makes you think its so hard to hit 140? i've raced a CIVIC HX at 130 MPH and that amazed me. If he can hit 130 what makes you think our maxima's can't hit 141? Also If your speedo is alittle over 140, can't you derive the fact that your doing at least 141?

I dont know what you have in your car, but the speedo's only go upto 140 on our car. so how do you know it was 141?
The fact that i had to explain that to you venompwr2 just lets me know that i'm arguing with someone of below average intelligence.

Re: idiots again

You're kind of missing the point. It may be possible to hit 140 in a stock auto maxima, very, very rare, but not impossible. Even though 140 on the speedo isn't 140.

But anyways, how did you do it in 3rd gear? You do understand that O/D is just 4th gear right? So how did you turn your O/D light on and go back into 3rd gear at 137 mph. If you were going 137 mph, what should have happened is that you immediately bounce off the rev limiter when you went back to 3rd.

And you racing a Civic HX doesn't really help the credibility. That car's not touching 130 mph stock or even moderately modded.

i had my 98 se 5spd up to 130 on my way to the movies like 2 weeks ago. It seemed like it could do more, so i'm guessing somewhere near 140

Tonygotskillz,

why get so worked up and ****ed? yea people dont believe you but i dont really see anyone calling you an idiot or other names. Anyways, yea the Max is 190hp car. If it was with a 5speed, 140 should be no prob. the whole point everyone is making is its not possible on an auto tranny. 4th gear is geared for freeway cruising, no power in that gear. 3rd gear is good up till 125mph or so.

how much did you want to bet that almost every decent auto Max can hit 140mph stock? many people here have already stated they dont hit 140mph, i hit 133mph with a Cold air intake, 95 GXE

So lets give Tonygotskillz the benifit of the doubt, lets say he was going 141, I know when our speedo say 140 we aren't really going at that speed but does anyone know maybe how fast we're actually going? 130? 135?
(Of course on a stock everything max, having difference size tires or rims will make your speedo be off a little but if a stock max like Tonygotskillz, when he claims to be going 141, how fast is that in actuality?) Just a thought.

As people have pointed out earlier, i have no doubts that an auto max can hit 140 with enough room to get it up there. It might take a while but i believe it can. Just because the fourth gear on an auto is set up for economy, it doesn't mean it won't keep pulling towards 140. the gears on a manual are closer together, while the same engine and set up is in the auto except for wider gearing. You manual guys might get there faster, but we can get there to. It might take some patience but it can be done. I had a 95 mazda Protege GXE which has less that 100 hp and weighs a little over 1000 lbs lighter than our cars and i could push that little thing to 115. It was a stick. We auto's can do everything you manuals can do. Just not as fast. That stick is just for control, not power, don't get it mixed up. But what's the big deal. We are all 4th gen max's which is a very good thing. It's like sibling rivialry with this auto/stick thing. I personally can't stand sticks anymore because of all the shifting while driving in the city and in traffic. Just my .02

If a stock auto could get up to 140 if would take a really long time and miles and miles of straight road. My needle stopped moving at 129 for a while and although it may have been able to go farther i had to stop cause i didnt want to pass a car going that fast.

If the stick is "just for control" than why do 5-speed maximas DYNO on average 10-15 FWHP MORE than autos?

I bet the 140 in an auto max is possible, but whoever has done it probably had a pretty good tailwind and didn't realize it. The guys who only hit 125-130 probably had a sizable headwind. Drag at high speeds DOUBLES every 10mph over 100mph.

The only way I was able to hit 133 on the Pike night was because of drafting or else I don't think I could have gotten up that fast and it was windy as heel that night.

that's a problem you need to address.....i had my car up to 125, i went up to 120 with the o/d off and then put it on, and then shut it down, it took maybe 30 seconds to get there from a 50 mph roll.......i could definately hit 140 or atleast 135

As i said before, Many if not all auto max's have or either say that they think they can hit 140 so BLA! The only reason i called certain ppl idiots is because they were so quick to say it can't be done. Why sticks dyno higher than autos is probably because AT PEAK power the gearing is better, but overall the dyno's should have the same total hp which is around 160-165 to the wheels. I did say before that to hit 140 it took SEVERAL miles of road. It was 2 years ago almost so i don't remember how much road but i can tell you that it Took me awhile. And i wouldn't ever try it again cause that speeding ticket woulda been bad. But i digress. In summary stock autos can hit 140 is in good maintanence. Plain and simple. As far as the o/d thing. I switched it off at 137 and i started to accel a bit quicker. Maybe it didn't change into 3rd i have no clue but the light did come on. I might of also had a tail wind i have no clue. I wasn't drafting though as i was doing this all by myself on the road. To those who believe me thanx and to those who didn't oh well thats life.

Thinking you can do something and actually doing it is totally different.

Autos and manuals don't dyno the same number. Given the same car, manuals will put down more power than the auto with a same gear ratio.

Also, a manual's 5th is 0.759 while the auto's 4th is 0.694 which means the manual's top gear will be putting down more power than the auto's top gear, not to mention the extra drivetrain loss from the auto. But, there are other factors to consider such as what RPMs are you at, etc...

Taking this & other factors in consideration, I hope you can see why it's hard to believe that a stock auto reached 141mph when Car & Driver (I forget exactly which magazine) tested (read: no "cheats") & topped out their 5-speed at 142mph. A 1mph difference?

IIRC, there were only a couple people who specifically said they went 140mph in a STOCK auto. One was someone claiming 145mph in a GLE, another was you.

I still don't think your car magically pulled from 137-141 in 10 sec with a click of OD button like you claim, especially when you said the car would not go any faster right before. Moreover, to gain ~5 mph when you are at the extreme top speed in only 10 sec is FAST.

However, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt because I don't want to discuss this topic anymore. Maybe you did hit 141mph, but what it probably is was that you hit a downward sloping stretch of freeway or something, but the OD button certainly did not have anything to do with it.

Peace.

That first statement might and might not be all true. I think you need to get some dynos from poeple with auto's and sticks who keep their car in good running order before you group all max'x into one category. This isn't a competition as to who has the better max, but rather people stating they have gotten their auto up to 140. I just can't see how that is so unbeleivalbe. Every max doesn't perform the same way even if the averages say one thing. If that were the case, deezo would be on some BS about his 1/4 mile time which i seriously doubt. All sticks don't have the same top speed so i know the same can be said about the auto's.
