throttle body cleaning

when was the last time you cleaned your throttle body?

engine --> throttle body cleaning

and check your wires. 95-96 maximas are known for starter problems and bust ground (-) wires.

ok.. update

the engine did not crank.. the only noise was the relays you hear from stuff being turned off while you turn on the car, etc.

BUT... today my car started fine..... ? ? ? ? ?

the dif. between today and last night is.. a bit warmer out.. and it's raining

i'm gonna check wires because i can picture a bad ground in dry weather that might be good when it's moist.

but... i will try that throttle body cleaning.. can't hurt..

i also know my knock sensor is bad, but i've been putting that off and using high octane gas... but still that should be ok

i did notice.. that if i rapidly turn key to ON over and over.. then it won't start... i had to wait another few seconds and then it started...

i don't know...

i think my starter is on the way out....

anyone know where i can get it tested ?

Re: ok.. update

To cut the story short, I believe it's your starter. If this happens again, try this:

Keys on ACC, press the brake pedal and move your auto shifter from P to N (manual, don't worry about this, just take that stick out of gear).

Then, move your car either forward or reverse just a couple of milimeters.... so don't try to hard to roll it like 1 ft. or something, just try to get the car rolls a bit.

Try to crank it again. If your second start is successful, than it's definitely your starter.

My car does this like once every 100 starts.

yep

if you just hear a *click click* sound... the connection it has to the battery is not conducting well. It would start in the morning... but when you run the car or if the temprature inside the engine bay is hot, it will not start because w/ the heat, there is more resistance and doesnt' allow it to conduct well. So... check all your wires.

well... cr*p

ok...

my car was at the giant parking lot for 6 hours the other night

what finally got it to start was that i tapped the starter with a wrench ( afriend suggested i do this in case the brushes were dirty on the electric motor )

when i got home.. it started 3 times then nothing..

the next day ..

i held the key to turn on the car..

it started to turn, just barely starting the engine then repeated the cycle like 7 times... barely starting the engine every time.

new starter i guess.... it seems pretty easy for me to do anything i should know ?

autozone has one for 140 with a 40 dollar core charge... what is that ?

Remove your ground wire first. Remove the top of your airbox (intake) to facilitate access to the starter.

The core charge is for the old part. The $40 will be returned to you when you bring in the old starter.
