is it possible to install HID in fogs using aftermarket foglight harmness?
is it possible to install HID in fogs using aftermarket foglight harmness?
I have an inexpensive aftermarket foglight kit which uses
a 55 watt H3 bulb. My foglight kit is not wired to any of
my stock wiring. It is meant to be installed as easy as possible
without splicing or wiring thru the firewall. It came with "in-line"
fuses and a relay with one wire that attaches to the (+) battery
terminal and another to ground. The kit also came with a wireless
remote switch which signals to the relay to turn the foglights on.
It kit works well but the H3 lighting is horrible and not much
light output.
So , I was wondering, can I hook up an H3 HID kit using this
foglight wiring harness? and control it using the wireless remote?
Each H3 HID light has its own connection to individual ballasts but
they also need to be connected to two wires red (power) and black
(ground) which my fog light harness provides.
The advantage to this is that I don't have to splice into my stock
wiring and worry about blowing fuses or melting wires. The HID's
basically has it's own wiring and independent wireless control switch.
Any opinions ? I haven't done this .... just a thought ....
By the way the aftermarket wireless remote foglight kit is

Hi Cyphur,
I only posted someone else's instructions to
give some ideas to the maxima.org members.
I didn't actually put the hid's into the fogs yet...
Can anyone confirm that my idea will allow
the fog HID's to be independent of the stock wiring ?
in other words,
Can tying the wireless foglight harness to the (+) battery terminal
still affect other circuitries of the car ?
... I don't want that to happen.
I used to have another set of fogs that sound similiar to yours. I grounded to the chasis and ran my +12v to the battery. This should not affect anything else in the car, and if for some reason something went wrong there should be a relay and fuse included in the kit that goes between the lights and the battery (that's how mine was).

55watt h3 bulbs not doing it for you? me neither! I bought a $19 kragen set...looks awesome in the stock positions (got comments from many people cuz they're a slight yellow tint, like GS400 fogs)
Anyways, I just spent $350 on an HID conversion kit. Now I'm wishing I spent the same amount for Sylvania's HID aux lamp...same price. frick!
