Small RPM drop when headlights turned on, Normal?

My rpms go down slightly and my car runs a little rougher when I turn my headlights and radio on is this normal? I have aftermarket Xenon headlights and parking lights. Thanks I'm just wondering if I should have my spark plugs changed or not cause I don't if the dealer I got it from at 66,XXX miles did it or not. I have 72,800 miles on it now. how often should I change them anyway?

The revs dropping a little is normal.

You should change your plugs (assuming your using the stock NGK Plats) every 60,000 miles.

Headlights on = load on electrical system

Load on electriacl system = alternator works harder

Where does the alternator get it's power from?

someone a while ago mentioned something about upgrading your wires if you have HIDs... because even though the regular wattage is only 35w, it takes 75w to fire them up and as they're first warming up.

someone also grounded them directly after the bulb, instead of back into the stock ground and reported brighter lights.

njmaxseltd... I know you just sold you HIDS, but do you or anyone else have any thoughts on either of these things?

Thanks for your responses. I knew that it takes a load on the alternator I was just wondering if it was normal. In my 88 civic wagon it did this did I was just wondering if it was the same in a 6 cylinder

Thanks again

The start up is a fraction of a second, (you can see the blip) after that their being powered by a 35W supply. The start up load isn't much either. It's a voltage spike that fires them up. Just like a spark on a spark plug which is several thousand volts, with very little current flow.

HID systems use about 18% LESS power to operate then a regular 45W halogen bulb. You do not need to do any upgrading of your electrical system to run an HID system. It's actually a lighter load then your car is designed for.
