Fixed shimmy finally!
Fixed shimmy finally!
Ive had this problem for about a year now where my car would shimmy once I reached highway speeds. Well, I took it back into a new shop yesterday and had a few things done including a tire balancing (I had previously had this done at another shop but I wanted to be sure it was'nt the wheels before I started looking for other things). Turned out my left front and rear right was still wobbling. Anyway 2 balances and a new back rim later the shimmy is completly gone.
Just as Ive read other ppl suggesting I think the maxima is just very sensitive to minor imbalances.

there are two types of wheel balancing...static and dynamic. a wheel can be statically balanced and still be off dynamically. Basicly, dynamic balancing accounts for whether the heavy spot is on the inboard or outboard side of the wheel. a wheel out of balance dynamicaly usually manifests itself as a steering wheel that turns back and forth really fast at highway speed, even theough the car is going straight. low profile tires make cars even more sensitive to this as the sidewall has less give. But, a lot of tire shops know customers hate the ugly weights on the outside of the wheel, and it does damage clear laquer, so they only do a static balance with the weights on the inboard side.
