question about rotors

I was thinking about getting some slotted rotors from Stillen(I don't have ABS). I was talking to my friend about it and he mentioned that my wheels would lock up easier with them. Just curious to some of the experiences of other .org members with aftermarket rotors and no ABS. Will this do more harm than good?

slotted/crossdrilled rotors cool quicker, so they don't warp and you don't get mushy brakes. They are also made of grippier material.

Now think for a second...how do you improve your braking? by having the pads grip the rotors harder, with more friction, and dissipating heat. Naturally, if you're gonna stop shorter, you're gonna be more likely to lock the wheels. It's just physics.

Take the opposite for example. If you "downgraded" your brakes, you'd stop farther and never lock the wheels.

If you wanna lesson the probability of locking the wheels, get some really grippy, wide tires! And increase the dampening of your front struts (assuming you have KYB AGX struts)

Slotted/cross-drilled rotors don't do crap for absolute stopping distances.

They might help rotors disappate heat faster (reducing brake fade), but for a stop or three, they won't do anything else except make your wallet lighter.

They're usually just stock or stock replacements drilled too, so they're definitely NOT made of "gripper" material.

So. Don't expect cross drilled or slotted (or both) rotors to do anything for your stopping distances.

Period.
