Need info on 4th Gen models please

I've sold the Bimmer and when I get back from China, I think that I'll be getting a 4th gen Max as this seems the best of all my options. But I wanted to get some basic info first. What are the differences on the models? Is there a signaficant difference? Also, I'm thinking about a SE model, what are the stock figures that it puts down? Now, most def. this will be a used one and probably one with high miles, what are some of the problem areas of 4th Max's that I should know about? Basic maintence repairs that need to be made on an older Max. And in terms of performance, what are options I can look forward to? Cams, LSD upgrades, performance ECU's? I was told that there no need to swap engines from a 5th gen. Can you use the 5th Gen cams for aggressiveness? How much are the turbo kits running for and what kind of figures can I expect to put down both power wise and money wise? Also, internal upgrades for when you go FI. Do the Max's have 4-wheel disc or are the rear's drums? I'll be looking for a manual so are there shortshifter's, lightened flywheels, upgraded tranny mounts and so on readily available? Has anyone replocated their battery to the rear? I've seen dual muffler set-ups so I'll be going for dual Apex-i N-1 mufflers. And what is this y-pipe and b-pipe set-up exactly? What kind of true Coldair intakes are there? I haven't seen AEM with one, I've seen Franken Car only I think. Sorry for all the questions, but what do expect from a Max noob?

Many of your Qs can be answered in the FAQ section or by doing a search. Maxs are very reliable cars and really don;t have any common reliability issues. 5 speeds are much quicker than the autos stock for stock. 5 speeds can do 0-60 under 6 secs if driven well and can achieve low 15 sec/high 14 sec 1/4 mile times. Handling may not be up to par with a BMW but new shocks/struts can change that.

To my knowledge there is no cam swap with the 5th gen or any other swap unless you want to pay huge money. Stock hp is 190 and 205 torque. A y pipe with intake can get you 10-20 add'l hp. superchargers can bump that hp figure up significantly and at this point are less expensive than turbos (since they are relatively new to the Max mods list of options). Many of your basic mods like short shifter, etc are avaliable.

Also model types: GXE-basic, SE sport edition, GLE grand luxury edition? SE is the sportiest of the group but really not much diff between the three models, just some interior stuff and options.

Also, what are your bulb sizes? And I'll probably clear out the tails myself. But I would like to know the bulb sizes everything exterior,i.e corners, fogs, tails etc. I know that the headlights are H4's, hopefully that'll change with a headlight conversion. Thanks in advance for any info.

get a bone stock 5 speed gxe. it will be the least expensive, and they weigh the least too, so theoretically, they should beat all the others. unless you want leather, which is really nice, i'm not sure if you can get leather or not in a gxe, mine doesn't have it.

oh yea, i cleared out my tails too. it's really not that hard, just remember to.....

BE PATIENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i can't stress that enough. if it won't come open when you start to peel it, don't force it. i cracked my very first one when i did it. then on the next light i cooked it(with a hairdryer mind you) for a little longer, and it came apart nice and easy...

...like a blazin hot katana through country crock butta.

be patient finding your max too. trust me you will find the perfect one for you. good luck.

Do a search for "cleared" and "oven"

It will show you how using an oven is the best method for getting those tails apart.
