How many have replaced leaking axle seals?

Since many members suspect tranny problems I won't repeat asking that question. So, how many have replaced axle seals?

In my case I had one seal replaced at 50k under warranty at Courtesy Nissan. At 56k I was hit, so I had to have some body work done as well as having the drivers side control arm and passenger side axle replaced. At 58k my drivers side axle seal started leaking again!

Since Nissan warranties items for 12months/12,000 miles (whichever comes first) I took the car back to Courtesy. However, Courtesy noticed a sticker on the (new) control arm and declined the warranty stating that the car had been worked on. Even though replacing a control arm does NOT require pulling the axle they would not honor their warranty work. So, in the end my insurance picked up the leaking seal as part of the accident, but I'm hoping I don't have anymore problems down the line. Right now I'm at ~58k so I'm almost out of powertrain warranty, and I no longer have a warranty on the seal.

guys i have a serious problem, one of my boots busted on the passenger side axel, so I had the whole axle replaced for about $130...

after driving for a week or two I noticed like when i hit a patch of bumpy road or floor the gas i can feel the steering wheel pull to the right

also sometimes when i punch the gas i can feel a weird play in the steering will almost like a ghost turned it or something

is that from replacing the axle? because i took it to the shop yesterday and they said it was probably a strut problem

do u think that's true or should i take the car to another shop (thinking it had to do with the bad axle replacement job)?

Wow you dug up a pretty old thread....

As an update for me, I never had problems with the axle seals through the time I sold my car a few months ago @ 120k.

However, for a while I drove on some rough country roads to work, and about two years ago I had to replace an axle when the boot tore. Later on I found out that the strut was shot (same side; passenger front). The hydraulic fluid had drained completely and the dust boot was torn to pieces. It seems wear issues like that seem to come in pairs.

Depends on when they leak in relation to work being done on the car, really.

And they can fail, but they often won't.
