ECTS Help!!!

Is it the 1/8 or the 1/33 thread. I have a 96 GLE and was having problems with my guage for about two weeks. This morning, it would not start. Should I also change the Thermostat? Or just the sensor.

Are you getting a CEL light? There are two sensors for coolant temp. One is used by the ECU and will impact your cars performance if it's gone bad. Usually it will throw a CEL.

The other is strictly used for the temp gauge in your car.

If your car is running cold and your heat isn't blazing hot, then you need a thermostat.

Care to explain what your car is doing?

The car was running okay and the heat worked fine yesterday. But this morning, it would not start. When I called AutoZone, they told me that there is two ECTS sensors. A 1/8 thread and a 3/33 thread. Which one is which. Both cost $25.00 each. Yesterday when I was driving, the guage would rise just above the "c". When I touched the sensors, the guage would go up to the middle and then go back down again.

You have a bad connection. Clean off the contacts and see if that corrects your problem. The sensor that controls your gauge inside your car has NOTHING to do with how it runs or starts.

The sensor closest to the engine block is the sensor for the ECU.

The sensor closest to the outlet or radiator hose is the sensor for the gauge inside your car.

From that pic you have, it looks like one sensor has a larger electrical connection and the other one is just a single lead connection. I guess would be that the single lead sensor would be for the gauge inside your car while the larger connection, (2 lead plug) would probably go to the ECU.

Update

The car started!!!--after a 1/2 hour boost of course...

The battery was totally dead! But since I have already purchased the ECTS and a Thermostat, I will change them anyway. Thanks for the tips and your help...
