this is off this guys web page:
3 COUSINS WERE KICKIN BACK WATCHIN THE B-BALL GAME. AFTER THE GAME WAS OVER, WE WERE BORED SO WE STARTED TALKING ABOUT CARS AND RACING AND THEN WE DECIDED TO RACE.
MY CAR- 96 MAXIMA V6(auto)
COUSIN- 95 CAMRY V6(auto)
COUSIN- 97MILLENIA S V6 (auto)
COUSIN- 96 ACCORD V6 (auto)
SO WE WENT OUT IN THE FARMING AREA AND LINED UP. THERE WAS FOUR OF US SO WE DECIDED TO GO TWO AT A TIME.
FIRST, THE ACCORD AND THE MILLENIA. ONE...TWO...THREE.. THEY TOOK OFF. THE MILLENIA STARTED TO PULL AHEAD AND ENDED UP BEATING THE HONDA EASILY.
NEXT IT WAS MY MAXIMA AND MY COUSINS CAMRY. WE LINED UP AND I ALREADY KNEW I COULD WOOP HIS ***, BUT WHEN WE TOOK OFF WE WERE NECK TO NECK. I WENT UP AHEAD BY 1/4 OF A CAR LENGTH AND THEN MY COUSIN STARTED TO PULL AHEAD OF ME. I WAS LIKE WTF? HE BEAT BY 3/4 OF A CAR LENGTH.
I COULDN'T BELIEVE IT, HE BEAT ME! I ASKED HIM IF HE WAS SHIFTING AND HE SAID NO. HE SAID THAT WHEN I STARTED TO PULL AHEAD OF HIM, HE PUSHED SOME ECT BUTTON. ECT= (electronically controlled transmission), WHAT THE HELL IS THAT? DOES IT GIVE U MORE HORSES? WELL ANYWAYS I WAS ****ED..BUT ATLEAST I DIDN'T COME IN LAST PLACE.
THEN IT WAS THE MILLENIA VS. CAMRY. I REALLY WANTED THE MILLENIA TO WIN. THEY LINED UP TOO AND THEN TOOK OFF. AGAIN THE CAMRY STARTED TO PULL AHEAD AND THEN BEAT THE MILLENIA BY ABOUT A CAR LENGTH.
AFTER THIS I DECIDED TO TAKE ON THE MILLENIA. WE LINED UP AND BOOM...WE TOOK OFF. I WAS PULLING AHEAD BY A LIL AND KEPT ON GOING AND FINALLY BEAT HIM BARELY. I WAS KINDA HAPPY ABOUT THIS BUT I WAS STILL THINKING HOW THE F***** CAMRY BEAT MY MAXIMA? CAN ANYONE TELL ME? OH AND WHAT THE HELL IS A ECT BUTTON?

Glok ran like a 14.8 or 14.9 in his 5-sp Camry. They have pretty much the same power as the maxima. So what's so unusal about a auto Camry beating a auto maxima?

last time i drove a camry, the tranny doesnt hesitate as long as ours. get a VB recalibration and get him back.

gLok ran a 15.0 or 15.1 when his 5 speed camry was stock... i think he ran a 14.9 with some mods. he knows a guy that ran a 14.996 or something like that (real real high 14) with a stock 5 speed CE which weighs less than his, all the guy had was a removed headlight to get more airflow.

The Maxima and Camry are close in term of performance. So, it shouldn't really be a surprise if a Camry beat a Maxima. I driven automatic Camrys and Accords before. It seem like their automatics have a better response than ours. Face it, our auto tranny just suck.

If both cars are tested back to back under controlled conditions by the same professional driver, an automatic Maxima (4th gen+) will edge out an automatic Camry V6 (3rd gen+). Same goes for a 5-spd. However, since you were racing on the streets, anything can happen, and honest on the streets even a 1/2 second 0-60 advantage doesn't guarantee a win since driver skill and ambient conditions come into play.

I've driven both 3rd (92-96) and 4th (97+) V6 Camrys and they have excellent V6 engines and very smooth automatics. Much smoother than a Maxima can ever be. And yes, the older ones have an ECT button which switches from "economy" to "power" mode. A very nice feature I wish I had on my automatic.

So I don't think from your race, you can conclude that the Maxima is faster, nor that the Camry is faster. The fact is that they are very closely matched and both are excellent V6 family sedans.

LOl. Now how come I haven't seen that mod posted on this board. It'd probably give better improvement than a CAI and it doesn't cost a penny

Because that mod doesn't work on a Maxima...the battery is in the way.

That doesn't surprise me

I remember going to the track with a member from camryman.org. His car was a bone stock V6 95-96 camry auto. He was running 15.8-16.0's all day long with 85-86mph traps. Considering those cars only had like 175-180hp IIRC they haul ***. My question is how fast did you guys go? There is no doubt that the 96 camry will be even until around 80+. After that your car should start pulling on him.

The only thing "O/D Off" does is lock out 4th gear. That's it. Any RPM changes you see are a result of the shift from 4th to 3rd or the torque converter locking or unlocking. It has no effect on shift points or shift firmness.

Actually 92-93 V6's had 185hp, 94-96 had 188hp. 97+ have 192hp-194hp, depending on emissions equipment.

The ECT is basically a computer that allows the transmission to shift at higher RPM. It doesn't give more horse power. I remember my dad's 92 Camry has it and it was alot faster with it on, but it consumed lots of gas with it on as well. Camry are fast, don't mess with them.

They are pretty close to the Max in terms of 0-60 ... but Great Handler they are NOT.

Camry suspension is geared towards comfort so is there Novacain injected Steering.

They ride and Handle like a boat!

but I think camry with aftermarket supension system should be able to take maxima with aftermarket supension parts in, because of s t u p i d BEAM

The car i drove was a '96 Camry LE V-6 Coupe... compared to the MAx it handled great... great steering, and for being stock it was pretty crisp... and it has alot more potential... cuz yea, its not cursed with the beam

97+ Camrys really turned into boats... i drove a '98 LE V-6 and it was horrible.. numb steering, imprecise everything... and crazy body roll ... it was horrible...
