Engine Light came on Please help...

Engine Light came on Please help...

Hey .org members, my Check Engine Light came on Sunday night. I left it parked at my work and drove my girlfriend's car home. Yesterday, I went and read the trouble codes off the ECU. I then went to vbxmaxima.8m.com and used the ecudecoder to decypher the codes. Here is the result:

First Code
Long pulse 09
Short pulse 03 = EVAP Canister vent control valve

Second Code
Long pulse 07
Short pulse 05 = EVAP Control System

I called my local mechanic and he told me that my gas cap was just loose. So I tightened it and reset the ECU. Was this really the problem? Thanks!

try driving it around, and if the CEL stays off, then yes it was your problem... duh

That could be one of the things that caused a code, but really doubtful. You are more likely to have a bad vaccum hose or have a loose connection of some kind. Try searching because this is something that has been a very popular issue lately with other members. I found my problem was a loose vaccum hose behind the TB. Is your car idling rough?

Thanks for the reply guys! Just called the Nissan dealership and they told me the exact same thing. The gas cap wasn't on tight enough. I feel like a dumb@ss. Oh well, it happens

if it happens again maybe the threads on the cap are going or it is losing it's pressure and needs to be replaced.

Well guys, the CEL came back on again just tonight. I just got some gas earlier tonight and went to eat and on my way home I had it on cruise and the light just popped on. I got home and checked the codes and they are the same ones.

So it is probably the gas cap threads or something going bad? How much is a new cap? I think my mom is taking the baby to the "doctor" tomorrow. Let me know what you guys think it could be...Thanks!
