Worth of Exhaust Systems

I want a new exhaust system but I am curious if it is worth the large amount of money. Are the gains in performance worth around $500?! I know the sound and looks of new exhasut are nearly worth their weight in gold over the OEM setup, but in your opinions', is exhaust worth it? I know you'll say search but what I am asking isn't in the search option. I want opinions. Thanks.

i would say to just get a y-pipe, b-pipe, and maybe a 5th gen muffler. to go stillen or greddy or any other exhaust is kinda stupid.

$/hp is pretty good. i put a WSP y and cat on my 95 and the top end was more potent....2-3K was a little softer

Dollars per HP is good for a Y-pipe, but horrible for a cat back.

Y-pipe: $165 / 15hp = $11 per HP
Cat back: $450 / 7hp = $64 per HP

WSP cattback is better. I got the B-pipe fix for only $75 bucks. I mean it is not great but much much better than others.

How many dyno-proven HP did the b-pipe fix get you?

Like others have stated the $$$ per horsepower is not very promising. But for a max you get a cat-back for mostly the sound. I had a cai on my car 1st and then i added the greddy cat-back before my y-pipe. I could feel a lil more in the day to day driving, but it more than anything seemed to make the car run a little smoother. It all depends on what u want while a greddy cat-back or similar cat-back may not be worth the $$$$ for HP, a ton of people i'm sure will agree its worth the sound

The most gains are from the ypipe, but if you mean by exaust, catback then go for it. It wont be as much hp, but youll have to do it sometime down the road. Also like everyone else said much better looks.

getting a ypipe from is definitely worth the money. as far as a catback, im not to eager to jump on that anymore. i purchased the stillen muffler a year ago and its too loud/drony for my taste, so im sellin it and going back to stock. if you are n/a, bpipe wont give you too much, and a muffler is just gonna add sound with minimal gains as well. i guess it depends on what you are lookin to achieve with your setup. if you want a different exhaust tone, and maybe a couple added hp, then get a catback. if you like quiet, then keep the stock bpipe/muffler and just get a ypipe cause thats where you get the best performance for your money spent. my .02

Exactly why I was saying it is not a great bang for the buck mod but not bad when considering the others weigh in at almost 4 times the price or more.

Y-Pipe it is

After all of that I definitely agree more towards the y-pipe over the CB exhaust. I think I'll just upgrade the cat to a high flow over the whole thing. Thanks for the advice.

Are you saying you got a brand new b-pipe for $75, or that you got your stock one bent for $75? If it is a brand new pipe that sounds like a good deal.
Thanks,
Dan
