Tranny Question

First off its an auto-Im taking it that it is not a good thing that when i get on it from a stop, it bounces the rev limiter in the drive gear going from the one, two shift points, but then after that it seems to run fine in all the other gears. Any thoughts. I know i probably need a new tranny, but i was wondering if there is a rebuild that could possibly be cheaper than buying a whole new tranny. Or would it be more worth my time and money if I did a 5 spd conversion, or if I wanted to buy a used tranny with less miles then try to get a dons VB. Any advice, please help!!!!!

Thanks
Brandon

It is not your transmission persay. It is the TCM, Transmission Control Module. This is located in the ECU and it controls the shifting. Heres a question for you, what mods have you done to your car? Usually, this is only noticeable in supercharged or nitrous Maximas. But it is a normal thing to tell you the truth. The TCM just can't activate and shift fast enough before you hit the limiter.

Valve body or solenoid hanging up and not giving you enough pressure on the 1/2 shift. To much slip will cause your engine to rev a bit when the car shifts. This is noticed more so when you get on it. I bet your car shifts fairly normal when you drive it normally???

i dont know if thats it, because when i get on it, it seems like it is slipping or something. For example when i floor it from a stop it hesitates when going into second gear and it shifts way after ti is supposed to, which is way it is hitting rev limiter. The only performance mod I have as of now is an intake, other than that just some GC's. Also when the engine is cold, when im just driving normal it goes all the way to about 40 mph then it decides to shift into second. Please help!!

njmaxseltd-your right, it does shift fairly normal when driving normal, so does that mean i need a new VB, and if so would it be cheaper to go ahead and do the vb upgrade.

Well i found out tonight that my car has like no second gear. When it shifts from first it sounds like it goes into third, and when i manually put it in second it still sounds like it is in first, so do you all think i need a whole new tranny or just the valve body like someone said before. Please help i would like to get this fixed before it gets really bad and i spend way more than i shoud have.

Thanks
Brandon

heh...

i remember when this happened to my tranny...they said that the drive gears for the 2 were gone...and the gear for the 3 were about to give out too...well anyway i got my tranny replaced and learned a freggy di expensive lesson...keeping a tranny cool is VERY important good luck on yours bro...and for the cost of the auto tranny and getting someone u know to put it in...you might as well go for the 5 spd swap
good luck dude

maxguy- how much did it cost you to replace your tranny, and what year did you get, how many miles?

96bluemax- how much would you let it go for, and how bad of condition is it in. i mean if its not in that bad of condition, i could always do a vb upgrade to ensure the trannies longevity(sp).

Lemme know
Thanks

Its fine, the only reason why i'll have it is cause i an doing a 5speed conversion and wont need it anymore. It shifts fine and since i have a tranny cooler it should be in pretty good shape. PM or email me with an offer and we can figure it out from there.

Thanks
