I have a problem with my brakes! can you help me identify it?

Hi guys.

here is my problem:

ok, i just bought my car the other day, and it just got inspected the other day too. it failed the inspection because it needed back brakes. so they put new brakes in it. but i think there is a problem... everytime i put i my brakes they squeel, and every time i put on my brakes harder they grind. (or make a sound/feel like grinding) so what is the problem? is it posiable that i have bad front brakes too? thanks.

I think its just how max brakes are. Mine do that too...depending on the type of pad you have. I went from stock to PBR Metal Masters...same situation...squealing and a quiet, but just noticable grinding sound, although I don't think they're grinding.

Go check your local parts store and try some of the anti-brake noise products they have.

It is important to use the stock shim kit (brake hardware kit). I believe teh nissan kit for the rear shims comes with a small pack of antisqueal goo.

Squealing is normal. Grinding is not. Make sure you mounted the pad correctly and that you do not have a warped rotor.

Squealing isn't normal
Grinding isn't normal
Quiet braking is normal

The most common cause of squealing brakes is the use of the proper shims and correct lubrication of the caliper pins. If either of these 2 key elements was not furnished, your brakes are going to make noise.
