I want to REALLY reset my ECU...
so, I've decided to unplug my battery while
I travel for business for a week...
Does anyone see any downsides to this?
It is really really cold outside, should that matter?
Thanks for the help!

It will REALLY get reset if you follow those procedures. If you still get the check engine light, then something is still wrong. If you want the car to "re-learn" your driving style, then I'd just disconnect the battery overnight, no reason to leave it helpless for a week, not that it would really do any damage. You have to reset your stereo and clock regardless.

he used to be"...so, I'm going for the drama-queen response and
disconnecting the battery for a week...
Thing is -- I don't really receive codes all that much, but, my
car is driving like a piece of $hit!!! So, drama-queen time!

The purpose was to find out if unplugging
the car for a week is a bad thing...
take care, that's all...if there's nothing wrong with
unplugging then no need to post...
thanks all!

The downside is that your alarm system will be deactivated. If you want to clear your ECU, just use the procedures listed in the locked post near the top of this forum.
but you just don't want to hear it, so unplug the battery for a week. ******.

Besides the alarm, I can't think of any other harm. Leave it unplugged, it should do the trick. Keep in mind that just an hour or 2 will w/ the battery disconnected should do the job... what i did was leave it over night and it was fine.
