Clean and degrease the calipers thoroughly. Then primer with high temp paint if you can, and then when you're ready to paint them, use high temperature enamel or the paint may burn off. Do not paint rubber surfaces or other surfaces that come in contact with other parts. Other than that, other work requires removing the calipers and reinstalling them.

Tape off rotor etc. so paint doesn't get on it.
Remove dirt with wire brush or some sand paper
Wash off and dry
Prime it if u want or just start painting
Do 3layers if so,waiting about 10/15min between each coat
You can add a clear cloat possibly if its inteded for high temps.
I would recommend buying a good laquer paint kit such as http://www.autosupermart.com/shop/br...ml?id=uFc3WT4c
I'm getting that for my friend most likely in spring when he puts on his rims, cause nice Rims with Crappy looking calipers just looks nasty wack and half arsed.

how many have done it without removing the caliper from the brake assembly? is that recommended or does it matter?
i'm a "tape it off and spray it" guy.
how fast would "regular" paint burn off?

Plenty have done them "on the car." It just won't turn out as good and you risk contaminating your bodywork with overspray if you do not mask sufficiently. Having said that - it can be done, though.

"Regular paint" that is not heat-rated will not last long on a brake caliper. Don't even waste your time with this if you just want to use paint that's "lying around the garage."

If you want to do it right, buy a can of engine-enamel or caliper paint from your local auto-store. Brake parts cleaner, too.

If you spray them "on the car," use a large trash-bag and push the caliper through a small hole (the hole will tear & widen) in the middle of the bag. This will protect the strut assembly and rotor from overspray. Tape and mask above and beyond that as you see fit.

Overspray travels - you may want to mask off the 1/4 panel you'll be working around. Perhaps go a little further, even - don't gamble.
