Good muffler for 4th gen max??

Recently, my card started to make a loud sound during exceleration at low speed. 40 mph and below. After inspection realized my rear muffler is rusted and has a big hole in it. So I guess I need to replace it immediately. Anyway I went to discount auto parts and auto max and prices for a stock muffler was $88.00. Universal mufflers they said were between $15.00 and $25.00 / Now I know that if I use a universal muffler I will have too have to weld it on. I do not want do this unless its a last resort. Is 88.00 a gppd price for the stock muffler or should I sear online for it? Also in terms of after market mufflers, are there any that are decently priced, QUIET or similar to stock sound, and are there any made specially for the 4 gen maxthat I can just bolt on? I'm sorry I don;t know too much about this stuff. Can someone shed some light please

well I dont know what you can get other than stock that will sound like stock unless you get a 5th gen muffler, which some have seen some decent gains from. Bolt on- you can go greddy or stillen, but your car will be louder. I have a stillen muffler, and regardless of what other people may say, I dont think it sounds ricey. It has a humming sound, not a buzz like hondas. However those are a tad more expensive $300+ unless you find some deals around, my uncle is a dealer and ordered mine for 260.

Well hey, I could be wrong. I dont have a 5th gen muffler and I'm just going by what I've heard from some people on here. I've heard of both gains and losses from the 5th gen, so its your call really. Dont remember who it was or when, but they claimed 9hp gain- I didnt see anything to back it up though.

hey

I don't care about Hp gains. I don't have money to add performance in terms of Hp to my car now, and probably won't ever. I just need to get my **** running without hearing this awful sound I am hearing now.. I kind of like the look of a muffler with a dual tip? Can you buy the tips? Like for instance can I just replca the stock muffler and buy a tip? Is there any place that anybody knows that sells a dual tip cheap. Maybe a chrome one.

Check the for sale forum for people who have aftermarket mufflers. Maybe they can be grabbed cheap from them.

Just get a used one from the junk/wrecking yard. Don't get anything from NAPA, carquest or anything like that. Their factory replacement exhaust has full of crimps on the bends of the piping...(loss of power/response/gas mileage)
