Ok, I have a 96 Maxima GXE Auto with a CAI and other mics. mods. Everytime in the morning, the car starts and is fine. However, the idle stays around 1000 rpms which is higher than usual and the shift from 1st to 2nd takes much longer and is very harsh. This only happens when it is cold, which is around 19 F. Any idea of what this could be. Thanks guys

It is normal for the car to step up to fast idle

when the car is cold, but the isle should return to normal after the car is at normal operating temperature. Same goes for the shifting...

Warm up

Doesn't this usually happen to all cars? Usually after the engine warms up after like 10 mintues or so, it drops below 1. I normally start up the car 15 mintues before I drive it on cold days.

It's normal. The high idle is to help the engine reach operating temperature sooner. Also, Maxima automatics are notorious for harsh 1-2 shifts, especially when cold. On my car, it is literally a neck snapping experience everytime it shifts when cold. So you've got nothing to worry about.
