No power after shifting to 2nd gear

Have a stock 96 Maxima SE auto. When I push (up to 6000+ RPM) from stop, it seems the car loses power (RPM drops to 3750 RPM). Is this normal or just my max? Can I do anything to solve this issue?

Tried several times to beat many similar level stock cars, won by at least 1/4 length until the tranny shifted to 2nd.

Also put a tornado years ago, yet feel no difference.

Any info will help.

Thx

Do you mean you've felt less power recently, or just in general? Because if it's just in general, then yes, of course it's supposed to be that way. The engine generates more power at the higher RPM levels and less at 3000 or 4000. When you hit 6000 in 2nd, you feel the power come back, right?

Just in general.... how about your max? Same thing (1st at 6000+ RPM and then drop to 3750RPM @ 2nd)? If so, I guess the gear ratio between 1st and 2nd is to huge...

Oh BTW, yes, the power comes back when 2nd reaches 6000+ RPM. However, it feels forever to go to 6000+ RPM with 2nd.

Go to www.howstuffworks.com and search "gearing" or "gears" in the automotive section.

Take that POS out of your intake. The only thing it's doing is causing a slight restriction.
