Throw bearing gone bad

I just got back from Mr. Transmission shop and they told me I would need new throw & pilot bearings. If the clutch was worn more than 50%, they would replace the clutch too -- all for $695 (clutch, bearings, labor). Do you guys think that's a fair price?

Also, another question. I need to drive to 900 miles to NJ tomorrow, are there any driving habits you'd recommend so I don't wear down the bearings anymore than necessary? What would happen to my car if I just kept driving w/o replacing them?

Baby the clutch and try not to shift hard or often. Just cruise in the highest gear you can. The bearings are only in use when you step on the clutch pedal

ohh, so should i just press the clutch really fast and let it shift jerky instead of holding down the clutch longer to shift smooth like normal?

Just drive like you normally do, but avoid stop and go traffic.

Thats a pretty fair

price. I recently had my clutch done at the $tealer because I didnt want the headache of doing myself.

I think I paid $750 parts & labor.

how old is the clutch? If it's aging, I'd go for it. That price seems about what it takes, usually, from my research. Prolly get mine replaced next year.

What are negative effects of driving for a long period of time with a bad throw-out bearing? Just curious...not sure if I have a bad to bearing, but my clutch pedal has grumbled/vibrated (right near the release point, I can stop it from happening if I'm careful enough) ever since I got my max almost 18 mos ago.
