99 SE-Limited 5sp. vs. S2000

I was behind an S2000 tonight on the interstate. He was tailgating the car in front of him just waiting for the person to get over in the other lane. We were going 60 at this point and I kept my 5sp. in 4th gear to make the downshift to 3rd much smoother. When a hole opened up in the right lane the S2000 took off just as I expected. I downshifted to 3rd and took off following him into the right lane and got around the slow car in the left lane. It was obvious that the S2000 was not getting away from me because I stayed the same distance from his bumper the whole time and actually gained on him slightly between about 4500 and 5500 rpm. I ran 3rd all the way out to approximately 95 mph and when I shifted to 4th he backed off and then got over in the right lane. I backed her down too and got into the right lane.

I thought an S2000 would have had more pickup than it did at highway speeds than what I saw tonight. Of course who knonws if the guy had it to the floor or not. I gave the Max everthing she had so I know that was as fast as I could accelerate.

The only mods I have are an FSTB and a K&N drop-in air filter. Has anyone raced an S2000 and do u think the guy floored it based on what my 99 SE-Limited 5sp. is capable of from 60 to 95 mph? Thanks in advance for the input.

i also have a 99 SE-L 5speed, but have not raced an s2000....but my guess would be that they are faster. Ya figure 230 something horse? (i forget the exact number), and they're a hell of a lot lighter than our cars. Ya never know though, if he didn't shift properly, or maybe if the S2000 isn't geared for the highway, there's a slight chance...
