Has anyone installed a windshield wiper motor?
Has anyone installed a windshield wiper motor?
My wipers stopped working and I was going to replace the motor. It looks like it just plugs in and bolts down. Any advice would be appreciated. By the way, I called my local Nissan dealership parts department and they gave me a price of $310. for the motor. There is one on Ebay for $15. and has no bids. What a joke!

The OEM part really shouldn't be that much... maybe they quoted you the wrong part...

Thanks for your info Mishmosh. I thought the price sounded high also, but with dealerships, you never know. You replaced the pump, I am replacing the motor. Do you think it will be just as easy? Thanks.

Check out the price list sheet... the retail may be old but it gives you a rough idea. Maybe check out JRNissan for a discount quote too.

I tested the fuse, it was ok. I just figured for $15. off of Ebay, I couldn't go wrong. It was a worst case scenario thing. I figured once I had them looked at, if they told me I needed a new motor, I would have one. When I turn the wipers on, I hear a noise that sounds like they are trying to work, but they don't move. I don't know what you mean when you ask if I have tested the stalk. Sorry.

You might want to evaluate these components before you replace the motor.

Are you saying replacing the motor wouldn't fix the problem? It is only $15. but if it won't fix the problem, I don't want to buy it. Thanks for you help.

Actually my car is at Nissan at this very moment getting it's windshield wiper motor replaced under warranty.
My wipers had completely stopped working. I could hear the wiper relay under the hood click on and off like it's supposed to, but there was neither sound nor movement from the wiper motor itself.
Turbo95Max helped me diagnose the problem and determined that the motor shorted out, and Nissan confirmed it.
Anyway, if you CAN hear the motor working but the wipers don't move then it's probably the linkage attaching the wipers to the motor. The wipers are attached to the motor via this ball bearing thingy. You can simply pop it back in if it popped out of place. It's probably not the motor if you can hear it. Check out the linkage first.
On a side note, the oem wiper motor does in fact retail for $200-$300.

I recently had the windshield replaced in my Maxima. Before then, there was no problem, now there is. Do you think they screwed something up? I don't know if they did it or not, so I don't want to blame them. But it is ironic, isn't it? I will pull the wipers apart to see if it is an easy fix though. Thank you.
