Noise in 1700 - 2500 RPM range

I wanted a 4th gen 5sp Max but ended up with a 95 GXE (AT, 84,500 miles, perfect condition, everything stock). What can I say - I love it!!!

I am concerned about one thing though: There is that annoying sound coming from the back of the engine bay that I cannot locate the source of. It's not a growl of power, it's more like a fart and it starts at about 1700 RPM and goes away after about 2500 RPM. I don't know if my Max runs sluggish because I've had the car for only a month and it's been like that since I bought it.

I had a 92 Mazda MX6 before and when it had a crack in the air intake hose it sounded just like this. I also read posts about "false air" leaking in after the MAF sensor and have checked (I think) all hoses downstream of MAF, but couldn't detect any leaks. I changed the air filter and will change the PCV valve this weekend but I don't think that's going to help. I am also planning to clean the throttle body when I find some time to do it (this coming weekend hopefully).

Any of you guys have any other ideas? Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks.

Exhaust leak? Could also be the Catalytic Converter heat shield came lose. Actually there are a few heat shields on the under side of the car. Crawl under it and see if any of them are lose.

We at Maxima.org will try to help you find and fix problems with your car, but a bit more of a description other then a FART sound might help us out. Also we need YOU to help US help YOU by looking into things further so WE can get more information to better diagnose your problem!

WOW - That sounded pretty good huh?

I knew Maxima.org guys will deliver!!! Thanks njmaxseltd and SonicDust187!!!
I'll check the exhaust this weekend along with other stuff & post what I found out.

I was never good at describing stuff. Besides English is my second language, so please bear with me... I'll try my best.

In the meantime I thought of another question - which TB cleaner is good?
Thanks again.

Any TB cleaner should be fine. Make sure it's Intake Cleaner and not Carb and choke cleaner.

Im guessing exhaust too. Lift the rear of the car, grap the B pipe (pipe before the muffler) and shake it real good. Look and listen to see if it hits. You may need to adjust the exhaust hangers or maybe one fell off?
