just tried to change fuel filter...

yeah right. I got the oil and air filter done but the ****ing fuel filter...UGH. I finally got the top hose off after about 40 minutes, but I'm 6'8 almost 300 - I can't fit two hands/forearms thru all that tubing and ****. I guess I'll wait till I get back to Seattle and have a friend do it for me (wink wink Matt or Ian )

the bottom hose took me a good 20min along with a flat head screwdriver to pop it off. After i realized i never fully de-presurized the fuel system completly, hense thats why it was so hard to get off.

Ill know for next time though

Try holding the lower hose in your left hand, the filter in your right, then twist the filter while pulling lightly. I bet it comes off.

If you have a rachet extension about 8-10 inches long you can stick a 1/4" socket on there and loosen the clamp screw that way. I found that to be much easier than using a screwdriver. You basically have to hold the filter with your right hand and unscrew the clamp with your left hand. Same method putting it back.

Of course, taking the intake out first to give yourself more room.

once the lower clamp is loose enough to just slide down the hose, pull up gently and twist hard left and right til it pops out.

good luck.

i know

Mine was actually a breeze

but I tried helping my friend with the same car and we couldn't f-ing turn the top screw..

what you can do is just cut the hose and go buy a foot of it at pepboys or the like for a buck or two...

If you have ABS brakes it is also a b!tch to do it... the unit gets in the way..

I guess I ma just lucky. My screws came off easily. Take the top one off, then cap the old filter with the plug from the new filter. After that take the filter out of the bracket and tilt it so you can see the bottom screw better. Once you get that off cap it really quick. I put in the 300zx filter, all I had to do was stretch the bracket a little. Good luck!

I dunno..someone's doing something wrong.

Mine came off easily in less than a minute. This was after not being changed in over 60k miles.

And yes, I have ABS.

Remeber fellas, if you pull it off, it's like those chinese finger traps. The more you pull, the tighter it gets. Best thing to do is use that skinny, long flat head screwdriver (and get your neighbor's kid with small hands to do it for you!)

you're supposed to change the filter every 60k. Took me 20min to change the filter on my 93 SE. I'm doing my 97 GXE on sunday. I'll let y'all know how it goes.

mine wasnt that bad, its tricky but not impossible. Your main problem is like you mentioned, gettin down there, since i have a short ram there is a lot of room and i basically use my left hand to go under the piping near where the manifold meets the block and hold the bottom. use my right hand to work the top. anyways, long story short, take all ur intake crap out and its a breeze.

If you have ABS I know its tougher. I've been scarred to hell just trying to change my filter but moving the intake out of the way helps a little.
