Another bulb comparison - Silverstars vs Extravisions

I've been running the Sylvania Extravisions for a month or so. They throw great light with a nice wide beam across the road. All this talk about the Silverstars makes the mod bug bite. So over to AutoZone I go and pick up a set. First off, they have a wicked cool color on them. It's not a ricer blue but more blue/purple/plasma clear ish whatever, it's definately different then any Zenon crap I've used/seen. That got my hopes high.

It's just starting to get dark in back of my company so out I go to make the switch. First I only put one in to see if there's a noticable difference. Sure enough, the Silverstar stands out like a sore thumb. Very clean white light. You can sort of see the blue tint on the reflectors inside the headlight, but the light shinning out is pure white! The beam pattern seems to be about the same as the Extravision, maybe a little more concentrated twards the center but thats OK cause the fog lights go wide. Now I'm off to buy a set of PIAA H3's to match it all up.

The HID's I had were very hot, but honestly they stood out like sore thumbs. Wayyyyy to bright and annoying to other drivers. That because of the 9004 design. Oh well, it's great to be stock and still be able to have nice lights.

I recommend the Silverstars to anybody in the market for new lights. They'll make great stocking stuffers!

Tom

I didn't really care for them when I put them in the Accord last winter but I bought a set and I like the white light. I also focused them up more to get more light to the road. I need new H3's also so I just bought PIAA Super Plasma H3's to light up the road even more.

yeah - silverstars are great - if only someone could find a bulb that would match better with the clearance lights (closest i think are polarg so far)

Deezo, those Plasma PIAA's look good, but don't throw enough light on the road. I sold mine and went with Super White H3's. They match the Silverstars White light. Those Plasma bulbs have a funky color and really don't provide good useable light on the road. They actually hit the road with an orange color which makes the Silverstars color look yellow on pavement.

The combo of Silverstars and PIAA S.W. H3's has given me almost the exact white color as HID's on the road, of course the intensity is no where near that of an HID system, but the color is definately right on!

tom, i just put in silverstars yesterday- coincedence.
i had eurolite xenons before. which looked awesome and not ricey but the vision wasnt too great. one burned out after a half year!
so i went back to the oe bulbs for a couple of weeks.
the silverstar beam is AWESOME.
to remark about your comments:
1) at first it seemed a little yellowish still and my first reaction was disappointment. but then after a while, everything was WHITE inside the actual headlight and reflectors. a little greyish. i dont notice the blue or purple though.
2) i have piaa h3's which are SUPER WHITE. the silverstars dont even compare to the whiteness there. to me, it doesnt quite match but its a GREAT lighting combo. the silverstars make lighting at 100% and the piaa fogs make it 200%, thats how good they are.

now i have to check out my uncles car which has my old cool blues and make the comparison

The praises for SilverStars keep piling up. Now it the dern rebate would just come in, I would be SET.

I cannot say enough abotu how much I like th esilverstars over other conventional headlights. I also liek the convenience of not having to change the harness.

Oh yeah, I also like the fact that my loghts are not obnoxious to drivers that I am behind or oncoming drivers. I feel much more curteous with these than I would be with some of those ricey blue/purple lights that every SI seems to have...

I put in Silverstars last weekend and I have notably improved visability at night. Time to get polargs for the clearance lights.

I have the rebate in the addressed envelope, but have yet to throw a stamp on it and in the mail. I know they want to see the receipt and the 2 UPCs from the package to get the rebate.

That is normal. Did that sound like an odd request to you?

It so retardedly easy to actually desolder the wire and solder it to the other contact. This way you never have to snip another lightbulb again. When you get the socket taken apart, you really don't even have to use the red dot convention because there is a notch in the silicon waferboard that makes it go back into the contact only one way. Also, the notch is next to the contact that has the brighter filament.
