Air Bag Module needs to be replaced.
It is very easy to do. You need to pull out the consol (armrest) and you see it right there. It clips off. One problem is you will need a special socket/key to take the bolts out. Go to auto parts store and describe it to them. That’s how I got it.
On the other hand, you can try resetting the light. There is a how2 on that. Do a search. I found it somewhere
If you need a module, I might be able to find you one!

If your Max has not been in a wreck it might be a much simpler fix. Did your airbag light just start flashing one day?
Same thing happened to me. All of a sudden the Air Bag light started blinking. Tried to reset it -- did'nt work. Dealer said that I needed a new Air bag module.
However, it was covered under the 5 Year major components warranty. Your's might be covered too, ask your dealer.
Part was $Cdn 265 + 1 hour labor if I had to pay

Exactly. the tool you need is a T50, or Torx 50 to get the airbag computer out. Also, since you have a 99GLE, you probably have side air bags. If that is the case, then you need to make sure to replace the airbag computer with the same 2 plug version. There's a one plug verison that looks just like it but only operates the driver and passenger airbags.
Lastly, make sure the battery is un-plugged when you work on the system. You don't want those airbags deploying accidentally.
