how to install factory fogs in 96 gle...?

i found some instructions on maximadriver.com, from what i gather, its prewired for it? BUT, i think i have to cut holes in my front fascia. - the reason i post this here is from what i gather, the instructions there are for a 97, and i know there are differences between 96-96 cars... so, after cutting the hole, the wiring bundle should just be behind there, and the bracket will screw right in and everything? any playing with the wiring required? also, how bright of bulbs can you use in there without damaging it, i use sylvania silverstars (bright!) could i use something similar in the fogs, or xenon bulbs, or what? last question, can the be turned on/off independently of the regular lighting of the car? thanks for any responses! oh, how much do a set of stock fogs cost, and where to get them? thanks! -shawn

i also wonder... possible to put a regular headlight (maybe not a maxima one, but one that fits) into the hole in the bumper... 4 lights with silverstars in them. mmmmm.

anywho, did the search, and came up with posts with questions, but not a whole lot in the way of vaible information. its so nice to have my post immediately answered by a smug moderator like that. its probably because of that that so many posts go on and on without ever concluding anything.

did some looking on a few other sites, and actually came across answers for some of the other questions i found while searching the forum. anyone have input on the new stalk installation procedure, and again, is the installation process the same for 95-96 as it is 97-99?

woohoo! thanks! does anyone have pics of the installation process? i would like to pic up a spare front fascia, and see if i can mold a set of smaller size headlights into there, much brighter and more durable, plus i found a set that have the proper shape and curvature, might fit with hardly any modification..

Just a suggestion. It's going to be a more difficult project to do headlight/fog swap. First you will have to upgrade the wiring harness to support more power. Second you will have to upgrade relays to let more juice flow or you will be defeating the purpose. These things are going to be hard to find, install, and really defeating the purpose IMO.

Go with the factory and install brighter bulbs. You can pick up an upgraded fog harness off ebay and install 100 watt bulbs I think. That will be pretty darn bright. Besides, unless you plan on going 4wheeling in your max, you don't need to blind oncoming drivers with all that light. It's an ambitious project I grant you, but realistically not necessary. Remember your factory headlights are not even that bright. Your car will look funny with fogs that are brighter than it's headlights.

You can install the factory fogs which have factory harness and everything already there. You will have to buy a new turn signal mast from the dealer, which is where the factory on/off switch is. You will also have to buy a $2 relay from any auto part store to put into the relay block under the hood. Your car has a spot for one, but since it's not equiped from factory, it's just missing the relay.

Plug and play is going to your be your best bet. BTW, I did that project to my 95 GLE and it turned out great. You will also find on the website how to re-wire your fogs to work independently. Some members can do this in about 5 mins.

Good luck.
