Just Drove a '99 SE......

I just drove my friend's 99 SE and there were a few differences. The 99 was much smoother than my 96 and also shift a lot smoother. It was much quieter... but thats due to the fact that I have an intake and he doesn't. I am wondering why his car is so much smoother than mine... both are SE's and both have stock suspensions. Is it because of the age? Would my max be as smooth if I got new struts? Also, mine shifts a lot harder than the 99.... what can I do to reduce this? Those were pretty much the only differences that I noticed in the ride...... in general the 99 was VERY smooth... almost luxury car-like, which I don't feel in my Max.

If you . . . .

change your tranny fluid (I'm assuming you are both autos) and give your motor a tuneup, I'm pretty sure you guys should match up in terms of smoothness after that.

Re: If you . . . .

Yeah I noticed a big difference in the smoothness of my auto tranny after I changed the oil. esspecially the 1-2shift.

Actually, a few years ago when I test drove the 99SE which I ended up buying, I did remark that my 95GXE idled a lot smoother and felt much faster and that was with over 120k miles.

it might be your suspension too.. I remember when I first drove a brand new maxima, it felt like the most luxurious car in the world. If you get new struts your ride will probably be smoother.

If your looking for that smooth new Maxima ride back, toss in a set of Tokico Blues. They ride really smooth on stock springs.

if i decide to lower the car (i would get maxspeed), would the tocikos be sufficient? or would i need a more aggressive strut?
