Raced a Mitsubishi Eclipse

on my way to new brunswick this night, i met myself racing an eclipse on rt 18, in new jersey. The thing is, i'm not sure what type it was, all i knew was that it had some bright lights, a nice exhaust an aftermarket fender (with grille's) and a nice sounding exhaust, and it was manual. It looked like the 95 type models with the big bubble back, and i'm thinking worst case scenario it must have been this one: http://www.edmunds.com/used/1995/mit...tml?id=lin0066

which is weaker than me right now but it is AWD plus he might be a better driver than me (which i doubt).

Anyway, this is how the race went. First we went through a straight away and he was on my **** when i was doing around 60 or so in 3rd gear (mid to high rpm's). So i keep it in that gear and floor it and at about 90 something i can see some descent space between us (not sure if he was trying or what not) but we hit an area with curves and go at it again, this time he's a little behind me and guns it. He jumps ahead of me, i'm doing a good high 60's in 4th gear and drop it to 3rd and i see him pulling on me...at about high 70's i can see myself slowly gaining on him until the curves come and i have to slow down on and off to avoid killing my car. after some curves a nice straight away comes and i drop it a gear and gun it and see myself slowly catching up. I'm like 80% positive i would have won if the race was a little longer and if my reaction time was a little better but my catch up on the eclipse was nothing like the honda's i toyed with in the past...not to say he's a monster but it wasn't a easy race for me...then again, who knows what he had under the trunk. I mean he's in new jersey with georgia license plates...

yeah those things are pretty fast. my first ever race with my maxima, from a stop light, i got my a$$ handed to me by one of these cars, but thats probably because i forgot to shift from first to second and bounced off the rev limiter

That was a GSX eclipse the top model.
200hp turbo charged AWD.
I raced one from a roll once and the same thing happened. He had gotten ahead and then I was catching up but then the race ended. My guess is that if It was from a stop that we would beat the eclipse.

Except the eclipse I raced was the generation before 95. They have the gsx eclipse starting I think in 1990.
There is also a gs-t model that is turbo but not AWD.

i dont think the max would beat an AWD from a stop

I dont think a NA max will beat a AWD eclipse, specially a turboed one. I ran one at the track that was running 14.3's all afternoon at Hattiesburg.

those thigs are pretty quick. My friend had a plymouth laser(fwd)turbo. we used to race and i'd win by half a car, a car at most. he's an above average driver though and i wasn't at the time. I'd figure the AWD would rob a little power but give better take off and handliing in turns.

If you even have to question yourself if a Eclipse GSX or a GS-T is fast, then I don't know what you are doing modding a Maxima.

89-94 T/E/L (Talon, Eclipse, Laser) for the non DSMers, these are the 1st gens.

94-99 T/E are 2nd Gens. The 3rd gens are just plain slow.

It takes a few hundred dollars if even to make them run 13's all day. They can be made really fast with little $$$. They also are far from reliable. I like to call them the "Mustangs of Imports".

If the driver knows what they are doing in a GSX, there is no way you are taking them off the line from a dead stop.

BTW-Single turbo will always be faster then TT.
