i was looking into buying new tires for my stock 17' SE rims...size i was looking for was 225/45/17 or 235/45/17...was wondering does anybody have 235' on their car and if so is it too wide? meaning does it rub again the wheel wall...

 

I have some Yoko ES100's in that size on some 17x8 rims. I have a slight rub when I turn the wheel all the way to the left but it is only against the plastic piece in the wheel well. I have mentioned this on here before and was told that it rubbs because I have a 40mm offset on my wheels instead of 38. Hope this helps.

 

Yes, 235 is too wide for the stock 17x7" wheels on the gen5 Maximas. Closest fit is a 215/50 or a slightly smaller 225/45.

Wider 17" wheels than the stock ones-- a 17x7.5" or 17x8" can run the ideal size of 235/45. A 7" wide wheel just isn't wide enough for a 235/45.

 

I don't think mine looks that bad....but it is getting lowered in the spring!

I'm running 235/45R17 on my 17X7 ASA LS5 rims. No problems. I've run 235/45R17s on another set of 17X7 and never had problems either.

the red maxima in my sig is running on 17x7 with 235/45/17 and is doing just fine

 

You can run 235-45-17 on a 7' wheel but it's not an ideal setup,
handling will suffer because the tire will not sit squarly on
the rim. Your best bet would be to run 215-50-17.

 

i have 235/45's on my 17x8 oz's. My car is lowered 1.5" and i have no rub whatsoever and it handles wonderful.

 

I am running 235/45/17 Pirelli's on my 17X7 DefCon-6's
and have had no problems and it looks just as flush on
the sidewall as my last set of 17X8.
