i was driving home yesterday and my "malfunction indicator light" is on... i went to the reader's manual and it says "if this light comes on or blinks whilte engine is running, it may indicate a potential emission control problem."

wat should i do?? should i take it to the dealership? does that mean i'm engine is damaged? someone please help me...

 

You mean your check engine light came on? Don't take it to the dealership. Do an ECU check and pull the code:

If you take it to the dealership, you can kiss $100 goodbye just for them to find out why the engine light is on.

The engine light (check engine/service engine soon) does not mean your engine is damaged, it means that there is a problem within its emission control systems, but if you neglect the problem, yes, your engine will get damaged, in conjunction with other developing problems. This light works 2 ways when it detects a problem...

1) If it comes on and is a steady on, that means there is a problem and it should be taken care of as soon as you can.

2) If it comes on and flashes, stop driving the car and fix it immediately

 

okie so i followed the instruction. the first test was a knock sensor problem, but i wasn't sure so i did it again, the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th time was no errors detected. i reset my check engine light and it was fine, except the fact tat my rev was runnin around 1,200 at idle cuz the car hasn't been driven for 2 days...

i drove 50 mi jus chillin with friends and it's in good condition, thx for helpin =)
