cat back experience needed
I just placed an order over the phone with budget for a b pipe(with res). anyway, i plan on replacing my stock muffler as well due to rust problems. this whole muffler thing has gotten a lot more complicated than I thought. maybe its because im on a budget (no pun intended). here is what i have found to be your options when replacing a muffler with an aftermarket brand. you have two choices. you can buy a really expensive muffler like stillen that is made specificaly for the maxima that will bolt on and already has hanger mounts, or you can buy a universal muffler and pay a muffler shop to weld on hanger mounts, and weld a pipe that will attach to your b pipe. im trying to decide which is the cheapest route. I want a stainless steel that will offer better performance than the stock with 2.5 in. inlet. does anyone know all the differint muffler that are maxima specific? i only know of greddy and stillen, but they are too expensive and LOUD. i dont really want to spend more than 300. I was reading on search that some people had gone with Borla and like that. that would require a mufler shop welding it together with at seperate tip. I dont want something loud at normal cruising speeds or highway driving. i dont care if it is loud at WOT.
if i got anything wrong here, please corect me. but would an experinced muffler person help me out on this with some info on a good mufler and how to go about getting one.
thanx

Welding the hangers on won't cost much at a muffler shop. Unless you are luckier than I you may need to go to a muffler shop anyways b/c the bolts are rusted on and they will need to cut them off. I was going to et a aftermarket muffler but Midas put a new one on for $99 with lifetime warranty. The diff of 2 or 3 hp just wasn;t worth it for me.
