i just hit 100,000 miles on my 96 gxe auto. and now when driving, the car will not shift into overdrive. at free way speeds of 60-80 mph the tranny will not shift even after backing off the gas pedal. playing with the overdrive button has no effect. (its like driving around with overdrive turned off, 4000 rpm at 80mph)i checked the transmission fluid level and it is ok, however it needs to be changed. has anyone had a simular problem? thanks for your time

This information is from the '99 Maxima factory service manual.

Symptom: failure to shift from D3 to D4.

Items to check, in order of likelihood:
1) PNP switch adjustment.
2) Control cable adjustment.
3) Shift solenoid valve A.
4) Revolution sensor and vehicle speed sensor.
5) ATF temperature sensor.

Actually, I had the exact same problem with
my 99 SE when I had the VB mod installed. My
Check engine light came on though and it turned
out to be the solenoid was bad. Since your light
is not on, I'd guess one of the first two problems
on the list.
