Similar thing happened to me, but it wasn't higher wattage bulb, it was a cheap one and it busted and melted the reflective coating inside my fog light, now one of my fog lamps is really dim compared to the other one

same problem, but solved!!
I had the same problem with my 98Max...i put 80/100w xenon super whites in my headlights...looks cool...but end of harness burned out completely...at first, i thought it was my high-beam flasher << like what the cops have >> so i changed that tip of the harness...same thing started happening...didnt wait for it to burn more...went out and bought 45/65w xenon super whites...and suddenly the problem disappeared!!!...

Before I have that problem... I'm switching to the PIAA's. Besides... they're brighter anyway.

Get the harness upgrade >>

If you use any 80/100 Watt bulbs, you should have this harness.

PIAAs are NOT brighter. They are 45/65W and that is it. Stop believing the marketing saying that 45=85W. It's BULL...if you get them, your wasting $50.

If you don't want to have to use the upgrade harness, buy Sylvania Coolblues or Philips BlueVisions.

I had the same thing
I put APC Super Plasmas 100/80 Watt on my Max and the right connector totally burned out. Went to dealer and they wanted to replace the whole harness.....NO WAY. I bought a connector from a junkyard from a wrecked Maxima and put it in myself. So far, the Plasmas haven't burned the connector out yet. But I am looking into getting the APC harness.

I had the same problem with my connectors both burning out.
I was going to replace the connectors, but instead opted to
upgrade the wiring to the APC harness. I had to make a few
minor modifications to it, as it indicated that it was for
a 9004 Bulb in a Toyota car, whatever that means. The way that the harness comes, and if installed according to the included instructions, it makes both high/low beams turn on at the same time. I changed it so that I still had control of low and high beams. I have used several bulbs, but I have had the best luck with the "Hyper" and "Naxos" brands.
I think that your money would be better spent on the harness and one of those bulb sets, rather than the over priced PIAA bulbs. The bulbs that I purchased and the APC harness set me back a well spent $80.

Ive had that harness problem. My left headlight wiring burned out with my high-wattage bulbs. So, I'm planning on getting the APC harness and a new pair of headlight sockets from a local shop.
