How do you know if you have "bees in a can" noise from y-pipe?
I got my Budget y-pipe installed two weeks ago. I am not too certain has to whether I have the "bees in a can" sound. The sound that I here at startup is a deep growl and also for the most part when I accelerate. The bees in a can noise is only prevalent at startup right? However, I tend to hear a lighter noise sound like a vibration from the silver part, flex section?
I took it back to the mechanic that installed it and found out that they welded the y-pipe to the pipe coming from the front of the catylitic converter. I could see a circular weld joining the two-pipes. I asked him whether it was the heat shield vibrating against the y-pipe, and he said that they remove the heat shield to prevent this. Moreover, the mechanic said that welding the y-pipe to the exhaust system is how it supposed to be installed. Could this welding be a reason for the noise?
I'm thinking that this noise is there becuase of the elimination of the two precats so that more air is pushed throuh the pipe causing this noise. I've been crusing around with my windows down trying to make up my mind as to what sound it is, even asking my sisters when they ride with me.

When the flex section in my stock Y pipe broke I got that famous bees in a can sound. Bzzz..
I actually only got the noise while driving. Never at idle or cruising. Only for the first 2-3 seconds after stepping on the gas, usually after a stop sign or light.

I just had my Budget installed last Saturday and I don't get any beees-in-a-can noise at all. Just a nice little growl.
