Anyone know how good the JL audio stealthbox is
JL AUDIO STEATHBOX
$400 is about what I paid for the stealthbox... I use an Apline amplifier with it... It sounds very good... Rear seat passengers feel like they are getting a pounding back massage when I crank up the volume...
You must line the inside edge of the left rear quarter-panel and other parts of the trunk with lots of dynamat or else you'll hear the car rattling all the way down the street...

Geez, you paid $400.00
I got ripped and paid $550. I originally had 3 ten inch MTX 8000s in a huge sub box that took all my trunk space, plus the box slid around, and I could not get to the spare tire unless I removed the box.
The best part about the JL Audio Stealth Box is that it tucks so nicely into the little corner on the drivers side. It is almost like there is no lost space at all. It is very heavily constructed and I can throw my golf clubs in the back right against the box, and I have no fear that there could be any damage. It is really a sturdy box. It runs at 3 ohms, which means if you have an amp that can handle the impedance, you will get more power from the amp than running it at 4 ohms. The WS6 speaker is the best of their line, and has won best overall sound and quality awards for the last 4 years. I really believe to get the best sound out of it, you really need an amp that will run at least 200 watts rms at no greater than .1 THD at 25 hertz. This sub will play as low as 23 hertz signals, for excellent rumble. I dont't have the same volume as with the other box, but the transition speed and tightness of this box is outstanding and tunned specifically to the Maxima. With this being an enclosed box, there is little effeciency so it requires as much power as possible. The other guy is right though, I had a ton of vibrational noises on my quarter panel, until I completely dynamated that quarter panel!
It is funny because the MTX box when listened to directly sounded great, but through the seats it sounded muffled in the cab. The JL box sounds flat when listening from the trunk, but sounds very tight and clear in the cab. If you want just a ton of rumble so everyone down the street hears you, you may not want this box, but if you want excellent sound quality with crispness and quick transitions in sound like in jazz or pop rock, this box is great. Also it bolts into the car so that no one can just quickly break into the trunk and steal it.
You really need to tune the volume and sound before you install it, or it is hard to tell when it is playing in the distortion range. I thought that it might be distorting due to the way the box would vibrate when first installed, and the trunk vibration noises. After removing it from the bolts, and fine tuning it, it wasn't even close to playing distorted sound, and could be turned up quit more. It has hard hitting bass and a lot more rumble than you would think until you hear one personally, all within a 10" woofer!

I have been able to find them in NYC for $350.
Some place in Brooklyn. Got the phone # from JL's website. I can't wait to get mine.
And remember, that little box has a 10W6, not one of the cheaper series like 95% of the other stealthbox's use, and she'll take 300 watts RMS

Best I've seen is $250 or $300 on a special group buy from a year or two ago.
Haven't listened to 'em much though. I wonder how a Stealthbox would sound if you swapped the driver out to something else-- not that I don't like the W6, but I like the IDQ 10" DVC and Infinity Perfect 10"'s more...

I don't know how the stealthboxes look like...I have a 1" thick amp board in my trunk that lays flat against the back of the rear seats as well as a rear strut tower bar installed. Will the stealthbox still fit nicely and perfectly?
I got mine for $359....
...from a place here locally.
They're great boxes and if you've ever heard one of the JL 10w6's in a sealed box, that's close to what it'll sound like. Just make sure to give it PLENTY of power and don't push it with a 50w amp or something. JL subs like power and can handle a lot more than their power rating in peaks.
Haven't installed mine yet, but that's coming in the next couple of months.

I went to JL Audio's website to check the specs & it said the stealthbox is wired for 300 watts max @ 3.5 ohms mono. How does 3.5 ohms work??? I understand 8, 4, 2, & 1, but 3.5? What specs should my amp in order to maximize the woofer's potential?
Any Amp that's rated for 4 ohms will work.
If you get one that can run in two ohms is even better.
My Tube Driver runs them GREAAAT!!!
I so can't want to finally get mine. i'd have it now if I hadn't messed up my speedometer. The wife sez we need to have a dumbass fund in our monthly buget....

I wonder if there is enough interest in a group deal? I'll post this in the for sale section. Please respond in that thread in your interested. Here's a link.

The W6 series has dual 6-ohm voice coils. When wired in parallel, the sub presents a 3-ohm load to the amp. The 10W6 will handle 500 watts. If you power it with a two-channel amp, make sure that the amp is 1-ohm stable or else it will shut down. If you use a monoblock, make sure it is 2-ohm stable. If you are building the entire system, get a 5-channel amp. It will power the front stage and rear fill, and the high-powered monoblock channel will easily handle the 3-ohm load.
