I am not sure how long the AGX shocks have been out, but the Illuminas have been out for a long time (probably at least 10 years). I remember people talking about them back when I was in college, and I had a set on my auto-x car a long time ago. They worked well for many years, even with extremely stiff springs.

Back then the only shocks that I knew of that were adjustable were these shocks and the Konis, and these were easier to adjust so I chose them. (They were probably cheaper, too).

Hope this helps,

i think Tokico got a bad name with maxima people cause of the Tokico blues. but the Tokico blues are pretty good on other cars, Illuminas are really good, havent had experince with them on the Max but if they are simlar to other cars, itll be a good shock/strut.

I have had experience with these shocks. We've put them on Papasmurf's car and I have to say, they are extremely stiff!! I believe these have to be the best shocks for the Maxima.
