Clutch problems on my 96 Max

I have a 96 max with ~117k miles on it. My clutch does not spring back up after pressing it in. I drove the car home yesterday with no signs of a problem, my wife started the car later last night with no problem initially, then said she could not get it out of gear.

After lifting the clutch back up, I tried to press it in again & it still will not return from the floor.

Does this sound like a broken clutch cable or something worse. How much can I expext to pay at the dealership for the repair or can it be done by a very novice mechanic like myself.

Thanks

Chances are... you're low on fluid in your clutch master cylinder... check for leaks too.

While stepping on the clutch pedal, have some one check to see if the slave cylinder is sliding towards the drivers side wheel.
Check the clutch lines for fliud leaks. If there are no leaks you might want to try and bleeding the clutch system before going to a shop.

1. check your brake/clutch reservoir fluid (probably low or out)
2. if fluid is low, then you probably have a leak on the hydraulic hose ($60)... you will probably need to replace hose and bleed

check out http://motorvate.ca/ under 'Transmission'

i had the same problem with my car. replace the hose and bleed the clutch and all is fine now.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions. It turns out that my clutch reservoir is empty. It is not clear yet whether the hose is leaking, but I hope to check tomorrow.

I am torn between whether I am going to take it to the dealership for repair or try to do it myself. After working all day and not having a spare car for myself, I am not sure that I will have the time & energy to do it soon. If the dealership cost is fairly low, I may just have them do it.

Motorvate, you have a get site & this is the second I have used your info (throttle body cleaner & fuel filter). One quick question, where is the hydralic hose located. I could not tell from your pictures.
