okayyyy..
actually, in Ontario, we have the same law. I know that you 'could' put the plate in the windshield, but this would cause a glare, and how long you can have it there I'm not sure.
You could also "modify" your front plate holders so that it isn't functional, so that if you get stopped, you can just tell the cop that it was broken, and this is the only place you could put it (without drilling holes in to the the car (and breaking the electro-deposition coating.... sorry, had to throw that in there to mock the local commercial I'm stuck hearing far too often)).

Same laws here in Oregon. I put the plate on after I bought the car - the previous owner had removed it. IMO it's something else that draws unwanted attention to your car - particularly from police - it's just something else they can get you on should they stop you for something else - e.g. speeding.
I say keep it on, but get a nice frame, or cover for it. I have a cover on mine that has a slight tint to it. I want one with a dark blue tint to match my car.

We are supposed to have front plates on here in UT but I wont do it. All 3 cars dont have plates and never had an issue. I take them off for two main reasons.
1. eyesore, practially nothing makes the max look worse in the front than having a plate.
2. Lasergun speed detection range generally cut in half or more without a front plate.

If you put it on the window you will still get a ticket in NY, In fact you don't have to be driving the car to get a ticket in ny for no front plate or if you keep it in the windsheild inproper display of front plate. I know it sucks to have to use a front plate; but those $55 ticket sure do add up in nyc.

Whoops almost forgot, You can't cover the plates at all with those plastic cover things even if they are clear...

not helping ...jus joking.....
good feed bak..im gonna try and mount it behind the bottom valence
I had no front plate on for about 6 months. The last month I got two tickets, within 3 weeks of each other, for $140 (canadian) each. That was enough for me to put the plate back on. Both times the plate was on the dash.
I took off my plate holder. I then bent the plate lengthwise just
above and below the numbers/letters so the plate looks like
a Z from the side with the top bent forward and the bottom bent
back. Mounted this in the lower bumper opening by screwing the top part of the plate to the overhang of the bumper and the bottom rests
on the lower shelf of the opening. It sits just iside the opening
but is still perfectly visible. It looks way better than the fugly
black holder! The holder did leave some marks on the paint where
it was mounted but not too noticable. Definately worth the effort.
I'd post a pic but not sure how.

I keep my license plate on the dash and have yet to have any trouble for it in Texas during the past year or so.. *knocks on wood*
I see so many bmw's and mercs around without em so that's the reasoning behind my delinquency

the only thing is you need to add a " / " before the img but inside the brakets in the second braket. I wanna see how this looks
Why do people put their front plate on their windshield, that just attracts even MORE attention to the cop. Usually if you don't have a front plate, the cop won't notice since there are many out of staters in NY who don't have front plates either. Also, it's a good idea to bang up your license plate and keep it in the trunk, so you can tell the cop it was damaged when you ran over your little sister's bike and you still haven't fixed it yet (or something like that
)
