Timing chain removal
Timing chain removal
Hellow,
I am new to this forum. last year I read some useful info on
starting problem. I have a 95 Maxima GXE now the mileage is
close to 100 K Miles. the car was fine and in good shape until
on a monday morning, it was sitting in my garage during the
weekend since friday evening. on the momday morning, I heard a
very loud noise from the engine compartment. I figured out there
must be sth wrong with the timing chain. I turned down the ignition
key and drove my other car to work. recently I tried to start the
car, I heard a slipping sound of metal chains.
Before working on the car, I would like to hear suggestion from DIY
experts from this forum. My concern is this,
since sombody said that the max has an interference type engine,
I am wondering if this slip during starting the car may have already
hurt the engine valves, if this is the case, replacing T-chain or
tensioner, or T-chain guide may of no help. could someone answer
this question.
If there is a chance that replacing the T-chain and related parts,
will save the car, then I am going to ask the following questions
then I would like to try it first by my self. In order to do this,
I want to know how to handle the toughest part I can seee from
reading instructions. I.e. the removal of oil pan which requires
an engine hoist and transmission jack. Has someone changed T-chain
by himeslf ? I read from the haynes manual, one needs to secure the
engine from above by a hoist and cant crawl under the engine because
it may fail and crush .
Then how one can remove the oil pan..
it sounds too difficult to me.
Thank a lot in advance...
