Is it just my battery?

I have a '95 Maxima with 56,000 miles. The maintenance on it has been performed as the owner's manual recommends.

My car doesn't turn over when the following scenario occurs. It is started and run for about 5 miles. Shut off for about 45 minutes. Started and run for another 5 miles. Shut off for about 20 minutes. And then attempted to be started again. This has occurred during the cold Winter days.

The battery is 3.5 years old.

A local shop tested the electrical system and found everything to be okay...of course at that point the problem could not be replicated.

Do I need a new battery...or is there something more complicated going on. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the help.

Have your alternator tested. Or a quick and easy test would be while the car is running open up your hood and disconnect the positive cable that is going to your battery. This will make the car run off of the alternator. If the car dies, then the alternator is not putting enough power out resulting in = not charging your battery enough to keep it maintained. If the car is still running, this means your alternator is not the problem. And also check both battery connections to make sure they are secure. I am assuming you are jumping the car everytime that you cannot turn over. Good LUck! ~Frank

It's not your battery. It sounds like your alternator is not working correctly. Is your check engine light on?

The flux capacitor probably requires recalibration.
This is covered in the 60K mile maintenance schedule.
