Surely you have already been here, but due to the shortage of manual Maxima's, I found the best place to look is on autotrader. I just purchased my 4th gen Max 2 weeks ago. Only three in the state of Texas that were manual.

Chicago

I'm in the chicago area also.

Try autotrader, I found mine there, auto. But there were a lot of manual ones in there too. Try Chicagotribune.com
The chicago reader. Carmax. http://www.wwwheels.com
hmm and go to your local dominicks and grab those free autofocus/autotrader monthy publications. Even try calling up dealerships. But the best is to find a private seller. It will be cheeper, because you don't have to pay more for the sales person.
