Anyone have exhaust and trailer hitch interference?

I'm looking to get a whole exhaust system in the near future and concerned that mufflers with big tips (4 inch) will interfere with my trailer hitch. I have a hacked together deal and even with a couple inches of clearance, my pipe still occasionally hits the trailer hitch making a hideous clunk sound. Doesn't really hurt anything, just sounds bad and could damage a nice shinny tip. Just wondering if anyone has dealt with this before?

Thanks for the reply

Bummer though, I use mine quite often and don't want to remove it.

What kind of exhaust do you have?

You could always epoxy a layer of rubber (go to the home improvement center & find something) cut to fit, to the bottom surface of the hitch where it contacts the exhaust and that might at least deaden the noise when the two pieces contact each other

-I'm assuming it only happens on larger bumps, right?

I have the Reese Shadow-Mount hitch & have no problems with exhaust clearance or contact. (But I only have a 2 3/4" tip on my muffler)

I have a hidden hitch, and like it. It is hidden, you can hardly tell I have it when the receiver is out. I use it quite often too. The "bump stop" idea is a good one. My friend has a welder so I've considered modifying it and re-welding a new configuration to accommodate an exhaust if necessary.

As long as there is a space between the trailer hitch and muffler, which there should be. You will be fine,
