Identify steering fluid problem

Bottom pic is the magnafyin version of the rectangle of the top pic.

So I have a power steering fluid leek and this is where the problem is (in the rectangle in pic), Please help me identify what is that thing called, and any of you fix this before and how much?

And the red arrow is pointing to what appear to be a broken seal of some type That looks messed up. Help plz.

EDIT: Oh, you are looking down from the driver size where the fuel filter is (that shiny round thing on the right)

Looks like it's weeping from the rack. Did you check all the power steering lines to make sure there not leaking where they connect to the rack?

I dun have any mean to jack up the car to check the bottom. I guess I have to get this fix, you think better go to the dealer or some non-dealer place for this power steering thing?

As I told ya in another thread, Nissan did a voluntary recall on the car for loose Powersteering return lines that have loose clamps. Tighten the return line clamp with a 10MM and spray simple green or engine cleaner down there and wash it down and watch it for a few days. I bet your return line hose clamo is loose. Mine was. I did this a few weeks ago.

BTW, thats your steering rack bushing. Mine has that same look.

I think I have the same problem! Can anyone tell me where the loose line is exactly? I don't have a FSM.

Good news and bad news, good news is you r rite, it was just a lose hose (low pressure side) so there is nothing major, the bad news, they charged me labor, about $75.

I changed my belts in the process too for $75 (provided my own belts) so total $150 for the trip.

If you went to a Nissan dealer, they shouldn't have charged you a dime as it is a recall. Go back and demand a refund and refer them to the leaking power steering rack hose recall.

If you went to a non-Nissan shop, you may be able to get reimbursed from Nissan North America. I just got my $450 reimbursement check from Nissan NA for my alternator replacement 1.5 years ago. Go to http://www.nissanusa.com/owning/Maxi...on/0,,,00.html for the reimbursement form. What you'll need to do first is go to a dealer to have them confirm that your VIN# is covered by the recall and confirm that the work was done correctly. They'll give you a service slip - save it. You'll need to submit it to Nissan along with the recall form from the Nissan NA link above as well as the service papers from the shop who fixed your car. Takes a couple weeks to get your reimbursement check.

Do you know where I can find the info for the recall. My co-worker has the same problem (she has a 95 or 96). I checked the Nissan site's recalls and the NHTSA recalls & neither of them show any recall info for those years. Was the recall just for later year models?
