strut installation

i tried to install a front strut, everything was fine until came time to sliding strut back into its place, somehow the strut and spring assembly is 1.5 inches longer for the part where 2 bolts go,
any help appreciated. 1995.

make sure the top mount is pointed in the correct direction. There should be an F etched into the mount.

You need both front wheels off the ground.

If only one is off the ground the sway bar is pulling the control arm upwards making it difficult to install the strut.
