1999 SE Wont Start!!
1999 SE Wont Start!!
I just got this car last month. The first night I had it i was going to take the little lady for a ride but it wouldn't start. The engine would turn over but would never fire. I let it set all night and in the morning it was fine. I thought it was a fluke, until this weekend it did it again. After letting it sit overnight, it still wouldn't start. Again, the starter would turn the engine over, but i just wouldn't start. I had it towed, and the local mechanic told me that the fuel pump wasn't getting a signal from the ECM. He got it working but he said it was either a flakey ECM or the security system was acting up. Anyone have any ideas. I'd like your opinions on this before I drop alot of money on something I could have done myself.

Check your ECU for codes. Refer to the sticky thread in the begining of this forum for instructions.
Could be a failing crank sensor, those symptoms match perfectly.

When you turn your key right before you crank the engine, give the car 10 seconds to let the fuel pump pressure up. Starting the car takes alot of fuel so be sure to wait till the courtesy bell turns off. Another thing you can do is have someone listen on the bottom of the back seat. You can probably hear the fuel pump turning on when waiting for the bell to stop. Do a search for "cold starts or problem starting car" on this forum. Is the temperature outside were you live really cold?, if so you're not the only one who experiences this problem. In the morning, when i start my car up I have to give the car a little gas for about 5-10sec. or else it will die. After giving it gas, it usually stays running. This only happens when the temperature dips into the teens in the morning. Otherwise warm days I have no problems. Keep us posted if it gets any better.
