Starter for 96 GXE!!!!
Ok, I got this car a few months ago with 44900 miles on it. Whenever I start the car it sounds like the starter is starting the car twice. I was told to get it taken care of asap so it would not damage my flywheel. Well today I got a new starter put in and of course it is still making the noise but it is just a different pitch. I know it is not normal and I do not know what to do at this point. Anyone that can help me please let me know what to do cauae I just spent 300 dollars for nothing!!!

Hey,
I just replaced my starter too on my 1996 GXE w/ 95k. Except I replaced it TWICE (I bought an Autozone starter for $140 w/ lifetime warranty). I had the EXACT SAME problem you're having. It sounds like the starter is Over-starting the car (it usually happens only when the car is cold). I thought I received a bad starter. Actually it was my car causing the problem in the first place.
First off -- find out why your old starter went bad in the first place. Starters just don't die (not good ones anyway). There has to be a reason for this.... check your spark plugs. I bet you'll find some are fouled. If this is the case, change your spark plugs (that's what I did). Once I put the new spark plugs in (Autolite double platinums), the over-starting noise went away.
Since you just shelled out $300 for a new starter -- I wouldn't bother looking there until I ruled everything else out.
