bad smell

I searched over the forums but none of the posts answered my question. My 99 GXE automatic with 45,000 miles makes a sulfur smell occasionally, even if i drive for over 20 minutes. The smell usually occurs in the afternoon after i come back from work

Does Sulfur smell = rotten eggs smell?

If it does, Could this be a problem with a clogged or defective catalytic converter so early in this young Maxima's life?

Just a thought.

Sulfur-type smells usually point to a catalytic converter - that's right. Not sure what your option is, other than replacement.

Okay, I don't know if this is the same thing, it's starting to happen on my dad's 96 GXE w/ around 85,000. He said when he turns on the heater he gets a wierd smell. He didn't describe it as a rotten egg smell or anything. Anyone experience a funky smell when they turn on the heater sometimes? Gotta smell it for myself.

No, it's not the same thing. Read the FAQ's at the top of the forum. This is a separate known problem.
