Any "ATF" rated transmission fluid will work.

True, but using something like Type F could prove interesting....

i have a question... is it neccessary to get transmission service done? i have 97 SE with automatic and about 110,000 miles on it.
i called the local nissan dealer they qouted me $79 for basic( i think they said drain and flush..) and $129 for T-Tech(where they hook up a machine or something) which one is worth it?

Yes, from what ive heard, its much better to get it done by that new machine that sucks all the fluid out. I would anyways.

While were on the topic of trannys, do any of you 5-SP guys get a metal on metal sound in the beginning of first and reverse when you are JUST letting go of the clutch. I get it SOMETIMES, usually only when its cold. Sounds like bad brakes for example. Friend said it sounded like i needed some tranny fluid, but wasnt sure.

I've never experienced that, but it could be as simple as your clutch pedal. If you're in neutral and press the clutch in and out do you hear it?

taeMAX97: If the tranny hasn't been serviced in while, the full flush is recommended. If you've been changing fluid regularly, the drain and fill should be okay.

How old's the clutch. It could be the grease that's on the release lever or the rod from the slave cylinder that pushes on that lever has dried up.
